Beyond Our Talents: Jeannette Mora, Senior Manufacturing Engineer at  ME Elecmetal Chile Rancagua Plant — Engineering with Perseverance, Continuous Improvement, and a Feminine Touch

Can you introduce yourself and your role in the company?

My name is Jeannette Mora, and I hold a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Santiago. I currently serve as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at ME Elecmetal’s Rancagua Plant in Chile.

I joined the company in August 2017, and this has been my first professional role. I began as a Manufacturing Engineer Trainee in what was, at the time, a very challenging environment — I was the first woman to join the plant’s operations area, historically a male-dominated space.

Today, after nearly eight years with the company, I remain closely involved in manufacturing. I actively participate in the design, definition, and production of critical solutions for the plant, contributing to both operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.

On a personal level, I come from a traditional and very close-knit family. I grew up with my parents, two older sisters, and a younger brother, in a home where support and encouragement were always present.

Outside of work, a meaningful part of my life is my love for animals — especially dogs, and in particular greyhounds, whose nobility and sensitivity I truly admire. At home, I share that love with my three dogs and two cats.

What attracted you to ME Elecmetal?

I joined ME Elecmetal after nearly a year of searching for a role aligned with my engineering background. Many opportunities at the time were not directly related to my field, so when I saw the opening at ME Elecmetal, I felt it was where I could genuinely begin building my career.

Over time, I’ve continued choosing this company because of the ongoing learning, the technical complexity of manufacturing, the opportunities for growth, and, above all, the strength of the team that drives results every day.

It has been a demanding and meaningful journey. Moving from Santiago to Rancagua on my own marked an important transition in my life. In the plant, I needed to build credibility as an engineer in a space where there were no women, gradually earning trust and demonstrating my value through results.

At ME Elecmetal, I’ve appreciated being able to have open conversations about my professional growth — even discussing opportunities like a potential exchange program in the United States. I’ve felt supported in those aspirations, understanding that development is a shared opportunity for both the individual and the organization.

How would you describe the culture at ME Elecmetal?

I see the culture at ME Elecmetal as both demanding and very human. Even though it’s a continuous production operation, there is a strong sense of teamwork and shared purpose. In my case, I spend most of the day with my team, which naturally creates a close, almost family-like dynamic.

I have also witnessed a clear evolution in areas such as diversity, inclusion, and safety. Today, conversations are happening that didn’t exist when I first joined — especially around the role of women in the industry. I would also highlight the deeply rooted culture of continuous improvement, supported by LEAN principles, which consistently pushes us to work smarter and improve together.

What benefits do you value the most about working here?

One of the benefits I value most is the company’s strong support for professional development. ME Elecmetal has supported me in completing a diploma program and is now supporting my studies in Industrial Civil Engineering — an investment that is key to my growth, both personally and professionally.

I also greatly appreciate the flexibility and trust. I live in Santiago and commute to Rancagua, so teleworking and the understanding of my direct manager have been essential. There is confidence that the work will be delivered with quality, regardless of where or when it is completed — and that level of trust is something not every company offers.

Personal anecdotes about teamwork, achievements, or company events:

One of the most meaningful milestones for me has been the implementation and consolidation of CNC modeling. We moved from depending entirely on external suppliers to developing complex, large-scale models within the plant. It was a gradual process, marked by trial and error, lessons learned, and many adjustments along the way.

I also led a 5S continuous improvement initiative at a key stage of the operation. There was understandable resistance to change, especially when working with external operators, and it required patience and consistency. Today, seeing a continuous and efficient workflow makes the effort worthwhile — it’s a project I’m especially proud of.

“I’m excited to continue growing professionally and exploring new opportunities within the company, particularly by strengthening connections with operations outside Chile.”

How does your team help solve challenges in the mining industry?

Manufacturing plays a critical role in our operation, connecting us to every stage of the plant. Our responsibility is to ensure that designs are not only technically sound, but also manufacturable, efficient, and high quality. That often means solving problems in real time and making timely, informed decisions that keep production moving.

We work in close alignment, with constant communication and a strong culture of collaboration. This allows us to respond effectively to the demands of the mining industry, delivering robust, innovative, and reliable technical solutions that support long-term performance.

What excites you the most about the future of ME Elecmetal?

I’m excited to continue growing professionally and exploring new opportunities within the company, particularly by strengthening connections with operations outside Chile. I believe the next step is to deepen global collaboration and expand knowledge-sharing across teams.

I’m also motivated to see how ME Elecmetal continues advancing in innovation, sustainability, and diversity — demonstrating that even in traditionally demanding and male-dominated industries, it’s possible to evolve and lead in a different way.
