Diverse Voices, Unique Stories: ME Elecmetal Celebrates Talent Through a Female Narrative

One of the greatest challenges in the mining industry is fostering diversity—not just in terms of gender, which is often highlighted during Women’s History Month, but also across a broad spectrum of perspectives, talents, experiences, and realities. True inclusion means embracing different dimensions of diversity, such as:

  • Gender: Increasing the presence of women in the workplace.
  • Intergenerational: Integrating different generations into the workforce.
  • Cultural and Geographic: Encouraging collaboration among various nationalities within an organization.
  • Disability and Abilities: Providing opportunities for individuals with diverse physical and mental conditions.
  • Experience and Knowledge: Cultivating a workplace with diverse skills, professions, and backgrounds.

Within the mining value chain and to achieve higher levels of diversity, the mining client -in general- has subscribed to the ICMM (International Council for Mining and Metals) agenda, thus opting to adhere to different paths to increase diversity, among which the following stand out:

  • Definition of specific objectives and goals of greater participation of some minority, mostly women and in a specific time horizon.  
  • Diversity management, through the definition and installation of policies, procedures and/or guidelines at the People areas level, which promotes the improvement of selection and hiring processes, and/or mobility, as well as development. 
  • Diversity culture, through the promotion of good practices that foster a more diverse and inclusive environment, with aspects such as forms of relationship, according to the reality of the company. 
  • Communication and dissemination of good practices, as well as trends and results. 

The presence of this explicit commitment to greater diversity has allowed the industry to advance in a more comprehensive manner in its sustainability objectives. 

In the case of ME Elecmetal, diversity and inclusion – or rather, diversity inclusion – is part of our values. In fact, both “Respect for people’s dignity” and “Integral Human Development” support this statement. Likewise, our sustainability strategy incorporates the pillar “Our People”, which demonstrates the importance of both global and regional reality of the workforce, through a presence of 20 nationalities, in 5 continents, reaching more almost 2,000 people  (1,966) located in more than 40 countries, for ME Elecmetal, a Chilean-based company and open to the world, is of the utmost pride and value.
